Marinate the Shrimp
In a large bowl, combine the shrimp and buttermilk. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or up to overnight to marinate.

In a shallow dish, mix the cornmeal, all-purpose flour, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder until well combined.

Coat the Shrimp
Remove the shrimp from the buttermilk, shaking off any excess. Dredge each shrimp in the cornmeal mixture, pressing gently to adhere.

In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.

Fry the shrimp in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
