Prepare the Rub
In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, paprika, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Mix well.

Rub the Brisket
Pat the brisket dry with paper towels. Rub the spice mixture all over the brisket, ensuring it's evenly coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.

Prepare the Smoker
Preheat your smoker to 225°F (107°C) using your preferred smoking wood. Oak or hickory works well with brisket.
