Method

Prepare the Patty

1

Form the Patties

In a bowl, combine ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix until just combined. Divide the mixture into 2 equal portions and shape into patties.

2

Cook the Patties

Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until they reach your desired doneness. Remove from skillet and set aside.

Sauté the Onions

3

Cook Onions

In the same skillet, add a little butter and sliced onions. Sauté over medium heat until the onions are soft and caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. Remove from heat.

Assemble the Patty Melt

4

Layer the Ingredients

On two slices of rye bread, place a cooked patty, add caramelized onions on top, followed by 2 slices of cheese. Place the remaining slices of bread on top to form sandwiches.

5

Grill the Sandwiches

In the same skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Place the sandwiches in the skillet and grill until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted, about 3-4 minutes per side. Add more butter as needed for grilling.

Serve

6

Slice and Serve

Remove the sandwiches from the skillet, slice in half, and serve hot. Enjoy your delicious patty melt!
