Method

Pie Crust

  1. 1

    Prepare the Crust

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Cut the unsalted butter into small pieces and add to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  2. 2

    Form the Dough

Gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough holds together but is not sticky. Divide the dough in half, shape into disks, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

  3. 3

    Roll out the Dough

After chilling, roll out one dough disk on a floured surface to fit your pie dish. Place it in the dish and trim the edges.

Apple Filling

  1. 4

    Prepare the Apples

Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin slices. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples with granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Toss until evenly coated.

  2. 5

    Fill the Pie

Pour the apple filling into the prepared pie crust, spreading it evenly.

Cake Batter

  1. 6

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

  2. 7

    Cream Butter and Eggs

In another bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.

  3. 8

    Combine Ingredients

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with milk, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.

  4. 9

    Bake the Cake

Pour the cake batter into a greased and floured cake pan. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
