For the Flautas

Method

Prepare the Flautas

  1. 1

    Cook the Protein

If using chicken or beef, cook the protein in a skillet over medium heat until fully cooked, season with salt, and shred or chop into small pieces. If using beans, simply heat them in a pot.

  2. 2

    Assemble the Flautas

Take a flour tortilla and place about 1/4 cup of the cooked protein in the center. Roll the tortilla tightly, folding in the sides to secure the filling.

  3. 3

    Fry the Flautas

In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the rolled flautas seam side down in batches. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Prepare the Sides

  1. 4

    Prepare the Rice

If not already cooked, prepare the rice according to package instructions. Fluff with a fork and set aside.

  2. 5

    Prepare the Beans

If not using canned beans, cook the black beans according to package instructions until tender. Season with salt to taste.

  3. 6

    Prepare the Salad

In a bowl, combine the shredded lettuce and diced tomatoes. Toss gently and set aside.

Serve

  1. 7

    Plating the Dish

On a large plate, arrange the crispy flautas, serving them alongside a generous scoop of rice and beans. Top with the shredded lettuce and diced tomatoes, and add a dollop of sour cream on the side.

  2. 8

    Enjoy Your Meal

Serve the flauta plate warm, allowing everyone to enjoy the delicious crunch of the flautas paired with the fresh sides.
