1. Prepare the Brisket

Season the brisket with salt and black pepper on both sides.

2. Sear the Brisket

In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the brisket and sear for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned. Remove from pot and set aside.

3. Sauté Vegetables

In the same pot, add the chopped onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until softened. Add minced garlic and sauté for another minute.

4. Add Spices and Liquids

Stir in chili powder, cumin, and smoked paprika. Cook for 1-2 minutes. Then add the diced tomatoes, beef broth, and brown sugar. Stir to combine.

5. Braise the Brisket

Return the seared brisket to the pot, cover, and reduce heat to low. Let it simmer for 3-4 hours or until the meat is tender and easily shreds with a fork.

6. Shred and Serve

Once cooked, remove the brisket from the pot and shred it using two forks. Return the shredded meat to the pot and mix it with the sauce. Serve warm.
