Italian for "lift me up" this traditional dessert is made up of layers of mascarpone cream, lady fingers dipped in espresso and chocolate chips, dusted with cocoa powder.

Prepare the Mascarpone Mixture
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the mascarpone cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.

Whip the Cream
In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until well combined.

Make the Coffee Mixture
Brew the espresso or strong coffee and let it cool slightly. If using, stir in the coffee liqueur into the coffee.

Dip the Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy.

Layer the Ingredients
In a 9x13 inch dish, layer half of the soaked ladyfingers on the bottom. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers, then sprinkle half of the chocolate chips on top.

Repeat Layers
Repeat the process with the remaining ladyfingers, mascarpone mixture, and chocolate chips, ending with the mascarpone mixture on top.

Chill and Dust
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight. Before serving, dust the top generously with cocoa powder.
