Sauce Preparation

Add Tomatoes
Pour in the canned whole tomatoes, including the juice, and use a wooden spoon to break them up into smaller pieces.

Season the Sauce
Stir in the dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Bring the sauce to a simmer and reduce the heat to low.

Simmer
Let the sauce simmer for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.

Add Fresh Basil
Once the sauce has thickened, stir in the chopped fresh basil and remove from heat.
Assembling and Baking

Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Prepare Baking Dish
Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of a baking dish.

Layer Ingredients
Layer half of the mozzarella and provolone cheese over the sauce, followed by a layer of pepperoni slices. Repeat with another layer of sauce, cheese, and pepperoni.

Top with Cheese
Finish with a generous layer of the remaining mozzarella and provolone cheese on top.

Bake
Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden.
