Method
Pasta Preparation
- 1
Cook the Penne
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the penne pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 10-12 minutes.
- 2
Drain the Pasta
Once cooked, drain the pasta in a colander and set aside. Reserve about 1 cup of the pasta cooking water.
Sauce Preparation
- 3
Sauté Garlic and Chili Flakes
In a large skillet over medium heat, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Once hot, add the minced garlic and red chili flakes. Sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.
- 4
Add Tomatoes
Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes, stirring to combine. Season with salt to taste. Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 5
Combine Pasta and Sauce
Add the drained penne pasta to the skillet with the sauce. Toss to coat the pasta evenly with the sauce. If the sauce is too thick, add a bit of the reserved pasta water to reach the desired consistency.
- 6
Finish with Basil
Stir in the chopped fresh basil and mix well. Cook for another 1-2 minutes until everything is heated through.
- 7
Serve
Serve the Penne all'Arrabiata hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese to taste.
