Marinara Sauce

Grilled Flank Steak

Method

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 1

    Sauté Garlic

In a medium saucepan, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  2. 2

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes to the saucepan. Stir well to combine.

  3. 3

    Simmer

Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally. Adjust seasoning to taste.

Grilled Flank Steak

  1. 4

    Marinate Steak

In a bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of olive oil with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Rub this mixture all over the flank steak and let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.

  2. 5

    Grill the Steak

Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Grill the marinated flank steak for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness is achieved.

  3. 6

    Rest and Slice

Remove the steak from the grill and let it rest for 5-10 minutes. Then, slice it thinly against the grain.

Assembly

  1. 7

    Prepare the Dish

In a baking dish, spread the marinara sauce evenly on the bottom. Layer the sliced grilled flank steak on top of the sauce.

  2. 8

    Add Cheese and Onions

Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and provolone cheeses over the steak, followed by the thinly sliced red onions.

  3. 9

    Bake

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the dish for about 15-20 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  4. 10

    Serve

Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, then serve hot, garnished with fresh basil if desired.
