Method
Prepare the Dough
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water (about 110°F) with sugar and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Mix Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a dough begins to form.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let Dough Rise
Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Prepare the Pizza
- 5
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) to prepare for baking the pizza.
- 6
Shape the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thickness (typically about 1/4 inch thick).
- 7
Add Toppings
Transfer the rolled-out dough onto a pizza stone or baking sheet. Drizzle olive oil over the surface, then evenly distribute the diced tomatoes, slices of fresh mozzarella, and fresh basil leaves. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- 8
Bake the Pizza
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
- 9
Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool for a minute, slice, and serve warm. Enjoy your Caprese Pizza!
