Method
Prepare Coffee
- 1
Brew Coffee
Brew a strong cup of coffee, about 1 cup, and allow it to cool to room temperature.
- 2
Add Liqueur
If using coffee liqueur, mix it into the cooled coffee.
Prepare Mascarpone Mixture
- 3
Whisk Egg Yolks
In a heatproof bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and granulated sugar. Place the bowl over a pot of simmering water (double boiler) and whisk until the mixture is pale and slightly thickened, about 5 minutes.
- 4
Cool Mixture
Remove the bowl from heat and let it cool slightly.
- 5
Add Mascarpone
Fold the mascarpone cheese into the egg yolk mixture until smooth.
- 6
Whip Cream
In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
- 7
Combine Mixtures
Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully combined.
Assemble Tiramisu
- 8
Dip Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy.
- 9
Layer Ingredients
In a 9x9 inch dish, layer half of the soaked ladyfingers at the bottom. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
- 10
Repeat Layers
Add another layer of soaked ladyfingers on top of the mascarpone mixture, followed by the remaining mascarpone mixture.
Chill and Serve
- 11
Chill
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
- 12
Dust with Cocoa
Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisu with cocoa powder and sprinkle with chocolate shavings.
- 13
Slice and Serve
Cut into squares and serve chilled.
