Method

Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

  3. 3

    Cream Butter and Sugar

In another bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.

  4. 4

    Add Eggs and Mix

Add the eggs one at a time to the butter-sugar mixture, beating well after each addition. Mix in the lemon zest.

  5. 5

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.

  6. 6

    Add Limoncello

Fold in the limoncello liqueur until evenly distributed.

  7. 7

    Bake the Cake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  8. 8

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Limoncello Syrup Directions

  1. 9

    Make the Syrup

In a small saucepan, combine the granulated sugar and water. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.

  2. 10

    Add Limoncello

Remove from heat and stir in the limoncello liqueur. Let it cool slightly.

  3. 11

    Soak the Cake Layers

Once the cakes have cooled, poke holes in the tops of the cakes with a skewer and drizzle the limoncello syrup over each layer.

Frosting Directions

  1. 12

    Prepare the Frosting

In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter together until smooth and creamy.

  2. 13

    Add Sugar and Limoncello

Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing until combined. Add the limoncello liqueur and lemon zest, mixing until smooth.

  3. 14

    Frost the Cakes

Once the cakes are completely cool, spread the frosting evenly between the layers and over the top and sides of the cake.
