Pasta

Marinara Sauce

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Pasta

In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and rinse under cold water to stop cooking. Set aside.

Meat Sauce

  1. 2

    Prepare the Meat Mixture

In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Drain excess fat if necessary.

  2. 3

    Add Vegetables and Seasoning

Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté for about 5 minutes until the onion is translucent. Stir in Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Cook for another minute.

  3. 4

    Combine with Marinara Sauce

Add the marinara sauce to the meat mixture. Reduce heat to low and let simmer for about 15 minutes.

Cheese Mixture

  1. 5

    Prepare the Cheese Mixture

In a medium bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and grated Parmesan cheese. Mix well until smooth and set aside.

Assembly

  1. 6

    Layer the Lasagna

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom. Place 4 lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by a third of the mozzarella cheese and a layer of meat sauce.

  2. 7

    Repeat Layers

Repeat the layering process: noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella cheese, and meat sauce. You should have three layers, finishing with a final layer of meat sauce and the remaining mozzarella cheese on top.

  3. 8

    Bake the Lasagna

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil (to prevent sticking, you can spray the foil with cooking spray). Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

  4. 9

    Let it Rest

Once baked, remove the lasagna from the oven and let it sit for 15 minutes before serving. This will help the layers set.
