Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook Capellini

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the capellini pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 3-5 minutes. Drain and set aside.

Meatball Preparation

  1. 2

    Make Meatballs

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

  2. 3

    Form Meatballs

Shape the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.

  3. 4

    Cook Meatballs

In a large skillet over medium heat, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add the meatballs and cook, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 5

    Make Marinara Sauce

In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil. Sauté the chopped onion over medium heat until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.

  2. 6

    Simmer Sauce

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, Italian seasoning, sugar, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer. Cook for 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

  3. 7

    Add Meatballs to Sauce

Add the cooked meatballs to the sauce and simmer for an additional 10 minutes.

Assembly

  1. 8

    Combine and Serve

In a large serving bowl, add the drained capellini pasta. Pour the marinara sauce with meatballs over the pasta and toss gently to combine. Garnish with fresh basil leaves and additional grated Parmesan cheese as desired.
