Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Prepare the Taro

Peel the taro and cut it into small cubes. Boil in salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and mash the taro until smooth.

  2. 2

Soak the Dried Shrimp and Mushrooms

In a bowl, soak the dried shrimp and shiitake mushrooms in warm water for about 30 minutes until softened. Drain and chop both finely.

  3. 3

    Mix the Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed taro, ground pork, chopped dried shrimp, chopped shiitake mushrooms, five spice powder, salt, white pepper, and sliced green onions. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly combined.

  4. 4

    Form the Cakes

Add the cornstarch to the mixture and combine thoroughly. With your hands, form the mixture into small round cakes, about 2 inches in diameter.

  5. 5

    Cook the Taro Cakes

Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry the taro cakes for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve the taro cakes warm, garnished with additional sliced green onions if desired.
