Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Pork Shoulder
Trim any excess fat from the pork shoulder and pat it dry with paper towels.
- 2
Make the Dry Rub
In a bowl, combine brown sugar, paprika, black pepper, salt, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well.
- 3
Apply the Dry Rub
Rub the dry mixture all over the pork shoulder, ensuring it’s evenly coated. Wrap the pork in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.
Cooking
- 4
Set Up Slow Cooker
Place the pork shoulder in the slow cooker. Pour apple cider vinegar and chicken broth around the meat.
- 5
Cook the Pork
Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or until the pork is tender and easily pulls apart with a fork.
Serving
- 6
Shred the Pork
Once the pork is done, remove it from the slow cooker and let it rest for 15 minutes. Then, use two forks to shred the pork into bite-sized pieces.
- 7
Add Sauce (Optional)
If desired, mix in BBQ sauce to the shredded pork for added flavor.
- 8
Serve
Serve the pulled pork on buns, in tacos, or on its own, garnished with coleslaw or pickles, if desired.
