Onion Straws

BBQ Ranch Dressing

Method

Preparing the Onion Straws

  1. 1

    Slice the Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into thin strips, about 1/8 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Soak in Buttermilk

Place the sliced onions in a large bowl and cover them with buttermilk. Allow them to soak for at least 1 hour to tenderize.

  3. 3

    Prepare Flour Mixture

In a separate bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Dredge the Onions

Remove the onions from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge the onions in the flour mixture, ensuring they are well coated.

  6. 6

    Fry the Onion Straws

Carefully add the coated onion straws to the hot oil in batches. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain.

Making BBQ Ranch Dressing

  1. 7

    Combine Ingredients

In a bowl, mix the ranch dressing and BBQ sauce together until well blended.

  2. 8

    Chill

Refrigerate the BBQ ranch dressing for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Serving

  1. 9

    Plate the Onion Straws

Serve the crispy onion straws on a platter with a bowl of BBQ ranch dressing for dipping.
