Onion Straws
BBQ Ranch Dressing
Method
Preparing the Onion Straws
- 1
Slice the Onions
Peel the onions and slice them into thin strips, about 1/8 inch thick.
- 2
Soak in Buttermilk
Place the sliced onions in a large bowl and cover them with buttermilk. Allow them to soak for at least 1 hour to tenderize.
- 3
Prepare Flour Mixture
In a separate bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Dredge the Onions
Remove the onions from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge the onions in the flour mixture, ensuring they are well coated.
- 6
Fry the Onion Straws
Carefully add the coated onion straws to the hot oil in batches. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain.
