Cake Ingredients

Method

Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Mix Sugars

In another bowl, whisk together granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.

  5. 5

    Add Chocolate Chips

Fold in the dark chocolate chips and white chocolate chips until evenly distributed.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting Directions

  1. 8

    Make the Frosting

In a medium bowl, cream the unsalted butter until smooth. Gradually add the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with buttermilk, mixing until fully combined and creamy.

  2. 9

    Add Vanilla

Stir in the vanilla extract until well incorporated.

  3. 10

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving platter. Spread a generous amount of frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.

  4. 11

    Add Toppings

Sprinkle the chocolate chips on top of the frosted cake for an extra chocolatey finish.
