Fried Calamari
Method
Preparation and Cooking
- 1
Prepare the Calamari
Begin by rinsing the calamari rings under cold water. Pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
- 2
Make the Breading Mixture
In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes. Mix well to combine.
- 3
- 4
Bread the Calamari
Dip each calamari ring into the wet mixture, allowing any excess to drip off. Then, dredge it in the dry mixture, making sure it’s fully coated. Place the breaded calamari on a plate or baking sheet.
- 5
- 6
Fry the Calamari
Once the oil is hot (around 375°F or 190°C), carefully add a few calamari rings at a time, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes, or until the calamari is golden brown and crispy.
- 7
Drain and Serve
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried calamari from the oil and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with marinara sauce on the side.
