Cheese Making Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Milk

In a large pot, pour the entire gallon of milk and heat it over medium heat until it reaches about 190°F (88°C). Stir occasionally to prevent scorching.

  2. 2

    Add Vinegar

Once the milk reaches the desired temperature, remove it from heat. Slowly add the cup of white vinegar while gently stirring the milk. You should see the milk start to curdle, separating into curds and whey.

  3. 3

    Let it Sit

Cover the pot with a lid and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes to allow the curds to fully form.

  4. 4

    Strain the Curds

Line a colander with a piece of cheesecloth and carefully pour the curds and whey into the colander. Let the whey drain off for about 5-10 minutes.

  5. 5

    Rinse and Season

After draining, rinse the curds under cold running water to remove any residual whey and vinegar. Add the teaspoon of salt and mix gently to combine.

  6. 6

    Shape the Cheese

Gather the cheesecloth around the curds and twist it to form a ball. Place a weight on top to press out any remaining whey for about 30 minutes.

  7. 7

    Chill and Serve

Once pressed, unwrap the cheese and place it in the refrigerator to chill for at least an hour before serving. Enjoy your homemade cheese!
