Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, mix warm water (1 cup) with yeast and sugar. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking soda.

Add the activated yeast mixture to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.

Knead the Dough
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Punch down the dough and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll it out to about 1/2 inch thickness and cut out rounds using a biscuit cutter.

Place the cut rounds onto a baking sheet dusted with cornmeal. Cover and let them rise for about 30 minutes.
