Directions
- 1
Prepare the Batter
In a large bowl, mix together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually whisk in the beer until the batter is smooth and thick. Let it rest for 15 minutes.
- 2
Prepare the Coleslaw
In a mixing bowl, combine the shredded cabbage and carrots. In a separate small bowl, mix the mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar, and salt. Pour the dressing over the cabbage and carrots and toss to combine. Set aside.
- 3
Fry the Fish
In a deep skillet or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Dip each cod fillet into the batter, allowing excess to drip off, and carefully place in the hot oil. Fry for 4-5 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- 4
Cook the French Fries
While frying the fish, prepare the french fries according to package instructions or fry homemade fries until golden and crispy.
- 5
Serve
On a plate, serve the fried fish alongside the french fries and a generous portion of coleslaw. Enjoy your homemade fish & chips!
