Fried Pickles

Prepare the Pickles
Slice the dill pickles into 1/4-inch thick slices and set aside.

Make the Batter
In a mixing bowl, combine flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. In another bowl, whisk together the egg and buttermilk. Combine the wet and dry ingredients until just mixed.

Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

Fry the Pickles
Dip each pickle slice into the batter, allowing excess to drip off. Carefully place in hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Make the Dipping Sauce
In a small bowl, mix together ranch dressing, hot sauce, garlic powder, and paprika. Adjust the hot sauce to taste.
