Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the cookies.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, sugar, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Cream Butter and Sugar

In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to cream the softened unsalted butter and remaining sugar together until light and fluffy, approximately 2-3 minutes.

  4. 4

    Add Vanilla

Add the vanilla extract to the butter and sugar mixture and mix until incorporated.

  5. 5

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the dry ingredients into the butter mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.

  6. 6

    Shape the Dough

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it until it comes together. Roll the dough into a log shape or press it into a lined baking pan.

  7. 7

    Chill the Dough

Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

  8. 8

    Slice or Cut

After chilling, slice the log into 1/4 inch thick rounds or cut shapes from the pressed dough using cookie cutters.

  9. 9

    Bake the Cookies

Place the cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.

  10. 10

    Cool and Serve

Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
