Method
Cooking the Pasta
- 1
Boil Water
In a large pot, bring 4 quarts of water to a rolling boil over high heat.
- 2
Add Salt
Once boiling, add 1 tablespoon of salt to the water.
- 3
Cook Pasta
Add the 2 cups of pasta to the boiling water. Stir occasionally and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.
- 4
Drain Pasta
Once cooked, reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water, then drain the pasta in a colander.
- 5
Add Olive Oil
Drizzle 1 tablespoon of olive oil over the drained pasta to prevent sticking and mix gently.
Making the Sauce
- 6
Heat Olive Oil
In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat.
- 7
Sauté Garlic
Add 3 minced garlic cloves to the skillet and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant but not browned.
- 8
Add Tomatoes
Pour in the 14 oz of crushed canned tomatoes and bring to a simmer.
- 9
Season the Sauce
Stir in 1 cup of fresh basil, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Let simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 10
Combine Pasta and Sauce
Add the drained pasta to the skillet with the sauce. Toss well to combine, adding reserved pasta water a little at a time if needed for consistency.
- 11
Serve
Serve immediately with 1 cup of grated Parmesan cheese on top.
