Method

Gyro Meat

  1. 1

    Prepare the Meat Mixture

In a large bowl, combine ground lamb, ground beef, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, dried oregano, ground cumin, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.

  2. 2

    Shape the Meat

Form the meat mixture into oval patties or logs, about 1 inch thick.

  3. 3

    Cook the Meat

Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the gyro patties to the skillet and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until browned and cooked through.

  4. 4

    Rest the Meat

Remove the patties from the skillet and let them rest for a few minutes before slicing thinly.

Rice

  1. 5

    Rinse the Rice

Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.

  2. 6

    Cook the Rice

In a saucepan, combine rinsed rice, water, and salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and water is absorbed.

  3. 7

    Fluff the Rice

Remove from heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork before serving.

Salad

  1. 8

    Prepare the Salad Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine diced cucumber, diced tomato, and thinly sliced red onion.

  2. 9

    Dress the Salad

In a small bowl, whisk together olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper. Pour the dressing over the salad and toss to combine.

  3. 10

    Serve the Salad

Serve the salad alongside the gyro meat and rice.
