Beef Patty

Grilled Onions

Cheese and Bread

Method

Prepare the Beef Patty

  1. 1

    Season the Beef

In a bowl, combine the ground beef with salt and black pepper. Mix gently to combine without overworking the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the Patty

Shape the seasoned beef into a half-pound patty, making an indentation in the center to prevent puffing during cooking.

Grill the Onions

  1. 3

    Sauté the Onions

Slice the onion into thin rings. In a skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they are caramelized and golden brown, about 15-20 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

Cook the Patty and Assemble the Melt

  1. 4

    Cook the Beef Patty

In the same skillet, add the formed beef patty over medium-high heat. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes for medium-rare, or until desired doneness. During the last minute of cooking, place the Swiss cheese on top of the patty to melt.

  2. 5

    Grill the Sandwich

While the cheese is melting, spread 1 tablespoon of butter on one side of each slice of marble rye bread. Place the slice with butter side down on a separate skillet over medium heat. Once the patty is done, place it on the bread, followed by the grilled onions. Top with the second slice of bread, butter side up. Grill for 3-4 minutes per side until the bread is golden brown and toasted.

Serve

  1. 6

    Slice and Serve

Once the patty melt is grilled to perfection, remove from the skillet, slice in half if desired, and serve hot.
