Method
Preparing the Calamari

Prepare the Calamari
Rinse the calamari rings under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Mix well.

Coat the Calamari
Dredge the calamari rings in the flour mixture, ensuring they are well coated.
Cooking the Calamari

Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 375°F (190°C).

Fry the Calamari
Fry the coated calamari in batches for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Making the Marinara Sauce

Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and sugar. Stir well, and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes.

Finish with Basil
Stir in the chopped fresh basil just before serving.
Making the Lemon Aioli

In a bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, lemon juice, minced garlic, salt, and chopped parsley until smooth.
