Baklava Ingredients

Method

Baklava Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Nut Filling

In a bowl, combine the chopped pistachios, chopped walnuts, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon. Mix well and set aside.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Phyllo Dough

Thaw the phyllo dough in the refrigerator overnight. Once thawed, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  3. 3

    Layer the Phyllo

Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter. Layer 8 sheets of phyllo dough, brushing each sheet with melted butter before adding the next.

  4. 4

    Add the Nut Filling

Spread half of the nut mixture evenly over the phyllo layers.

  5. 5

    Continue Layering

Add 4 more sheets of phyllo, each brushed with butter, followed by the rest of the nut mixture, and then top with another 8 sheets of phyllo, brushing each with butter.

  6. 6

    Cut the Baklava

Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes before baking.

  7. 7

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes, or until the baklava is golden and crispy.

  8. 8

    Prepare the Syrup

While the baklava is baking, combine water and honey in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes.

  9. 9

    Soak the Baklava

Once baked, remove the baklava from the oven and immediately pour the honey syrup over it. Allow to cool completely before serving.
