Bavarian Pretzel Bites
Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and granulated sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. Stir in flour and salt until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- 2
Let the Dough Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 3
Preheat and Prepare Baking Soda Solution
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil.
- 4
Shape the Pretzel Bites
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope about 1 inch thick, then cut into 1-inch pieces to form bites.
- 5
Boil the Pretzel Bites
Carefully drop the pretzel bites into the boiling baking soda solution, cooking for about 30 seconds. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- 6
- 7
Prepare Beer Cheese Sauce
In a saucepan, melt 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese with 1/2 cup of beer over medium heat. Stir until smooth and creamy.
- 8
Serve
Serve the pretzel bites warm with the beer cheese sauce, and sprinkle with cooked bacon bits on top.
