Method
Cake Preparation
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans with butter and dust with flour.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk together until well blended.
- 3
- 4
Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures
Slowly add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Then carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth (the batter will be thin).
- 5
Bake the Cakes
Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- 6
Cool the Cakes
Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from the pans and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Ganache Preparation
- 7
Heat the Cream
In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer, but do not let it boil.
- 8
Combine with Chocolate Chips
Remove the saucepan from heat and add the semi-sweet chocolate chips. Let it sit for a few minutes to allow the chocolate to melt.
- 9
Stir Until Smooth
Stir the mixture until it is completely smooth and glossy.
- 10
Cool the Ganache
Let the ganache cool at room temperature until it thickens to a pourable consistency.
- 11
Frost the Cake
Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate and pour some ganache on top. Place the second layer on top and pour the remaining ganache over the entire cake, letting it drip down the sides.
