Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Heat the Milk

Pour the whole milk into a large pot and heat it over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until it reaches about 190°F (88°C). Do not let it boil.

  2. 2

    Add Vinegar

Once the milk reaches the desired temperature, remove it from the heat and immediately stir in the white vinegar. Stir gently for about 1 minute to help the curds separate from the whey.

  3. 3

    Let Curds Form

Cover the pot with a lid and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes. During this time, the curds will form and separate from the whey.

  4. 4

    Strain the Curds

Line a colander with cheesecloth and place it over a large bowl. Carefully pour the curds and whey into the colander to separate them. Let the curds drain for about 5-10 minutes.

  5. 5

    Season the Curds

Once drained, transfer the curds to a bowl and sprinkle with salt. If desired, add garlic powder and dried herbs for additional flavor. Mix gently to combine.

  6. 6

    Chill and Serve

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving. Cheese curds can be enjoyed fresh or as a topping for various dishes.
