Cooking Instructions
- 1
Prepare the Tomato Sauce
In a large skillet or saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
- 2
Add Tomatoes and Seasoning
Add the canned diced tomatoes to the skillet. Stir in salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and let it cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 3
Cook the Calamari
Once the sauce has thickened slightly, add the sliced calamari to the sauce. Cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the calamari is tender and cooked through. Do not overcook, as they can become rubbery.
- 4
Finish with Basil
Stir in the chopped fresh basil just before serving to keep its vibrant color and flavor.
- 5
Serve
Serve the calamari hot, garnished with lemon wedges on the side.
