Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Make Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Shaping and Baking

  1. 5

    Roll and Cut

Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out into a large rectangle. Cut into triangles (base about 4 inches).

  2. 6

    Shape Medialunas

Starting from the base of each triangle, roll tightly towards the tip and shape them into half-moons.

  3. 7

    Second Rise

Place the shaped medialunas on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

  4. 8

    Prepare Glaze

In a small bowl, whisk together egg yolk and milk. Brush over the risen medialunas.

  5. 9

    Bake

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the medialunas for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
