Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Marinade
In a bowl, combine soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, honey, grated ginger, minced garlic, and black pepper. Whisk together until well combined.
- 2
Marinate the Tuna
Place the Ahi tuna steaks in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them. Cover and let marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, but no longer than 2 hours.
Cooking
- 3
Heat the Pan
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.
- 4
Sear the Tuna
Remove the tuna from the marinade, allowing excess marinade to drip off. Sprinkle sesame seeds on both sides of the tuna steaks. Place the steaks in the hot skillet and sear for about 1-2 minutes on each side, or until a golden-brown crust forms and the inside is still rare.
- 5
Rest and Slice
Once seared, remove the tuna from the skillet and let it rest for a couple of minutes. Then, slice it against the grain into thin strips.
Serving
- 6
Plate the Tuna
Arrange the sliced Ahi tuna on a serving platter.
- 7
Garnish
Sprinkle chopped green onions on top and serve with lime wedges on the side.
