Method

Preparation of Hibiscus Tea

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a medium saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a boil over medium-high heat.

  2. 2

    Add Hibiscus Flowers

Once the water is boiling, add 1 cup of dried hibiscus flowers. Stir gently and reduce the heat to low.

  3. 3

    Simmer

Allow the mixture to simmer for about 10-15 minutes, until the water turns a deep red color and the hibiscus has infused.

  4. 4

    Strain the Tea

Remove from heat and strain the hibiscus tea through a fine mesh sieve into a pitcher, discarding the flowers.

  5. 5

    Cool the Tea

Let the hibiscus tea cool to room temperature. For quicker cooling, you can refrigerate it.

Mixing the Spritz

  1. 6

    Prepare Ginger

While the tea is cooling, finely grate or mince 2 tablespoons of fresh ginger.

  2. 7

    Combine Ingredients

In a large pitcher, combine the cooled hibiscus tea, grated ginger, and optional sweetener (honey or agave syrup). Stir well to combine.

  3. 8

    Add Sparkling Water

Just before serving, gently pour in 4 cups of nonalcoholic sparkling water or soda. Stir gently to mix without losing bubbles.

Serving

  1. 9

    Serve Chilled

Fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the hibiscus spritz over the ice. Garnish with lime wedges and fresh mint leaves if desired.

  2. 10

    Enjoy!

Serve immediately and enjoy your refreshing hibiscus spritz!
