Method
Preparation of Chocolate Torte
- 1
Melt Chocolate and Butter
Preheat your oven to 200°C (392°F). In a heatproof bowl, combine the dark chocolate and unsalted butter. Place the bowl over a pot of simmering water (double boiler method) and stir continuously until melted and smooth. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- 2
Mix Wet Ingredients
In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar and eggs until well combined and slightly frothy. Add the vanilla extract and mix until incorporated.
- 3
Combine Mixtures
Gradually pour the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture, stirring constantly to avoid cooking the eggs. Mix until smooth.
- 4
Add Dry Ingredients
Sift the all-purpose flour and salt over the chocolate mixture. Gently fold in the flour using a spatula until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
- 5
Bake the Torte
Grease a round 8-inch (20 cm) cake pan and pour the batter into it. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is still slightly jiggly.
- 6
Cool and Serve
Remove from the oven and let the torte cool in the pan for 5 minutes before inverting onto a serving plate. Serve warm with scoops of vanilla ice cream on the side.
