Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk together until well blended.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat the eggs, then add the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix on medium speed until just combined.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin, which is normal.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cakes

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 8

    Beat Butter

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter with a mixer until creamy.

  2. 9

    Add Cocoa and Sugar

Gradually add cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with milk. Beat until smooth and fluffy.

  3. 10

    Add Vanilla

Mix in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.

  4. 11

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
