Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Marinate the Protein

In a large bowl, combine olive oil, lime juice, minced garlic, cumin, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to create the marinade.

  2. 2

    Add Protein

Add beef strips, chicken breast, or shrimp to the marinade. Ensure all pieces are well-coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight for best flavor.

  3. 3

    Prepare Vegetables

While the protein is marinating, slice the bell peppers and onion into thin strips.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Sauté the Vegetables

In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add a tablespoon of olive oil. Once hot, add the sliced bell peppers and onions. Sauté until they are tender and slightly charred, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

  2. 5

    Cook the Protein

In the same skillet, add the marinated protein. Cook for about 5-7 minutes for beef or chicken, or 3-4 minutes for shrimp, until cooked through and slightly charred. Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking.

  3. 6

    Combine Ingredients

Once the protein is cooked, return the sautéed vegetables to the skillet. Toss everything together and cook for an additional 2 minutes to combine flavors.

Serving

  1. 7

    Serve the Fajitas

Warm the tortillas in a separate skillet or microwave. Serve the sizzling protein and vegetable mixture with tortillas, sour cream, guacamole, and salsa on the side for guests to assemble their own fajitas.
