Caramel

Flan Mixture

Method

Caramel Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Caramel

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the granulated sugar and water. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely.

  2. 2

    Cook the Caramel

Allow the mixture to boil without stirring until it turns a golden amber color, about 8-10 minutes. Watch it closely to prevent burning.

  3. 3

    Mold the Caramel

Quickly pour the caramel into a round flan mold or individual ramekins, tilting to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden.

Flan Mixture Preparation

  1. 4

    Blend the Flan Mixture

In a blender, combine the eggs, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Blend on high until smooth, about 1-2 minutes.

  2. 5

    Pour the Mixture

Carefully pour the blended flan mixture over the hardened caramel in the mold or ramekins.

Baking

  1. 6

    Prepare Baking Water Bath

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the filled flan mold or ramekins in a larger baking pan. Fill the outer pan with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the flan mold.

  2. 7

    Bake the Flan

Bake in the preheated oven for about 50-60 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

  3. 8

    Cool and Refrigerate

Remove the flan from the oven and let it cool at room temperature. Then, refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

Serving

  1. 9

    Unmold the Flan

To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan to loosen it. Invert onto a serving platter to release the flan from the mold, allowing the caramel to flow over the top.

  2. 10

    Slice and Enjoy

Slice the flan into portions and enjoy this delicious dessert!
