Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, salt, and baking powder. Set aside.

  3. 3

    Melt Butter

In a small saucepan over low heat or in a microwave, melt the unsalted butter. Allow it to cool slightly.

  4. 4

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until fully combined.

Mixing and Baking

  1. 5

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.

  2. 6

    Add Optional Ingredients

If using, fold in chocolate chips and chopped walnuts into the batter.

  3. 7

    Pour Batter

Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.

  4. 8

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

  5. 9

    Cool and Serve

Remove from the oven and allow to cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Cut into squares and serve.
