Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour and salt.
- 3
Combine Ingredients
Make a well in the center of the flour mixture. Pour the activated yeast and olive oil into the well. Mix until a dough begins to form.
- 4
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- 5
Let Rise
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Pizza Assembly
- 6
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up.
- 7
Shape the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it out into a round shape, about 12 inches in diameter.
- 8
Add Sauce and Cheese
Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border. Tear the mozzarella cheese into pieces and scatter them over the sauce.
- 9
Season the Pizza
Drizzle olive oil over the top and season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- 10
Bake the Pizza
Transfer the pizza to the preheated oven (or onto the pizza stone) and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
- 11
Add Fresh Basil
Remove the pizza from the oven and immediately add fresh basil leaves on top. Let it cool for a minute before slicing.
