Pupusas

Method

Pupusas

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dough

In a large bowl, mix the masa harina, warm water, and salt until a smooth dough forms. If the dough is too dry, add a little more water.

  2. 2

    Shape the Pupusas

Divide the dough into six equal pieces. Flatten each piece into a disc, about 1/4 inch thick. Place a tablespoon of shredded cheese and a tablespoon of shredded pork in the center of each disc. Fold the edges over to enclose the filling and gently flatten again to form a thick disc.

  3. 3

    Cook the Pupusas

Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a bit of oil. Cook each pupusa for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and slightly crispy.

Fried Yuca

  1. 4

    Prepare the Yuca

Peel the yuca and cut it into thick sticks or chunks. Place the yuca in a pot and cover with water. Add salt and bring to a boil. Cook for about 20-25 minutes or until tender but not mushy.

  2. 5

    Fry the Yuca

Once the yuca is cooked, drain and let it cool slightly. In a large frying pan, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the yuca pieces to the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 6

    Serve

Remove the fried yuca from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve hot alongside the pupusas.
