Cake Preparation

Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

Mix Wet Ingredients
In another mixing bowl, beat together the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Combine Mixtures
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.

Add Boiling Water
Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth and well combined (the batter will be thin).

Bake the Cake
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool the Cake
Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Prepare the Frosting
In a large mixing bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy.

Gradually add the cocoa powder and mix until fully incorporated.

Frost the Cake
Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
