Method

Preparing the Patty

  1. 1

    Mix the Beef

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently until just combined.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the beef mixture into two equal portions. Shape each portion into a patty about ¾ inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent swelling during cooking.

Cooking the Patty

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill

Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side until browned. Flip the patties and cook for another 3-4 minutes.

  3. 5

    Add Cheese

During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty. Cover the grill or skillet to melt the cheese.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 6

    Prepare the Vegetables

While the patties are cooking, wash and slice the tomato and onion. Rinse and dry the lettuce leaves.

  2. 7

    Toast the Buns (optional)

If desired, lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster.

  3. 8

    Assemble the Burger

On the bottom half of each bun, layer lettuce, followed by the cooked patty with melted cheese, then sliced tomato and onion. Add ketchup and mustard to taste, and top with the other half of the bun.
