Preparation

Directions

1. Prepare Tamarind

Peel the tamarind pods to remove the outer shell and fibers. Place the tamarind pulp in a bowl.

2. Soak Tamarind

Add 2 cups of warm water to the tamarind pulp and let it soak for about 20 minutes to soften.

3. Extract Juice

Using your hands, mash the tamarind pulp in the water to extract the juice. Strain the mixture through a fine sieve or cheesecloth into a pitcher, discarding the solids.

4. Sweeten Juice

Add the remaining 2 cups of cold water, sugar, and salt to the strained juice. Stir well until the sugar is completely dissolved.

5. Serve

Serve the tamarind juice over ice cubes in glasses. You can adjust the sweetness by adding more sugar if desired.
