Cooking Instructions
- 1
Prepare the Pork
Trim any excess fat from the pork shoulder and pat it dry with paper towels.
- 2
Season the Meat
Rub the Hawaiian sea salt and black pepper evenly all over the pork shoulder. Make sure to get it into any crevices for maximum flavor.
- 3
Add Liquid Smoke
Drizzle the liquid smoke over the seasoned pork, ensuring it is evenly distributed.
- 4
Wrap the Pork
If using banana leaves, wrap the pork in the leaves to help retain moisture and add flavor. If not using banana leaves, place the pork directly into the slow cooker.
- 5
Slow Cook
Place the wrapped pork in a slow cooker. Cook on low for 12-14 hours or until the meat is tender and easily shredded.
- 6
Shred the Meat
Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and let it rest for about 15 minutes. Shred the pork using two forks.
- 7
Serve
Serve the shredded kalua pork with your choice of sides, such as rice or coleslaw.
