Sushi Ingredients

Method

Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Cook the Sushi Rice

Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Combine the rice and water in a rice cooker and cook according to manufacturer's instructions. Once cooked, let it cool slightly.

  2. 2

    Season the Rice

In a small bowl, mix the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Pour over the warm sushi rice and gently mix with a wooden spoon to combine. Allow the rice to cool to room temperature.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Fillings

While the rice is cooling, prepare the fillings. Slice the fresh tuna into thin strips, julienne the cucumber, and slice the avocado.

  4. 4

    Assemble the Rolls

Place a bamboo sushi mat on a flat surface. Lay a nori sheet shiny side down on the mat. With wet hands, spread a thin layer of sushi rice over the nori, leaving a 1-inch border at the top. Arrange some tuna, cucumber, and avocado along the bottom edge of the rice.

  5. 5

    Roll the Sushi

Using the sushi mat, start rolling the sushi away from you, applying gentle pressure to keep the roll tight. Roll until you reach the border of the nori, then wet the edge with water to seal the roll.

  6. 6

    Slice and Serve

Using a sharp knife, slice the roll into bite-sized pieces. Serve with soy sauce and wasabi on the side.
