Sauce Preparation

1

Cook the Garlic

In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

2

Add the Tomatoes

Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes and stir well to combine with the garlic.

3

Season the Sauce

Add salt, black pepper, dried oregano, and sugar. Stir to combine and bring the sauce to a simmer.

4

Simmer the Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally until slightly thickened.

Assembling the Soppressata

5

Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 220°C (425°F).

6

Prepare the Base

Spread the prepared tomato sauce evenly over your pizza dough or baking surface.

7

Add the Cheese

Lay the sliced mozzarella evenly over the sauce.

8

Layer the Salami

Distribute the sliced spicy Calabrese salami over the mozzarella.

9

Bake the Soppressata

Place the assembled pizza in the oven and bake for 12-15 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

10

Garnish with Basil

Remove from the oven and immediately top with fresh basil leaves. Serve hot.
